Moon probing essential to China space program
www.chinanews.cn 2005-10-18 15:31:22
Chinanews, Beijing, Oct.17 (By Ma Haiyan and Sun Zifa) - At the press
conference for the successful return of Shenzhou VI convened by the
Information Office of the State Council this morning, China Aerospace
Science & Technology Corporation (CASC) Deputy General Manager Xu Dazhe
indicated that moon probing-oriented deep space exploration is a logical
choice of China's spaceflight development. China's first moon probing
satellite "Chang'e I" is now being developed as scheduled.
Xu remarked that it is universally known that space activities include
three major fields, namely launch of man-made satellites, manned
spaceflights and deep space orbiting. China has made great leaps forward
in the first two fields. Therefore, moon probing-oriented deep space
exploration should be a must for future development of China's space
program.
Xu, an authority in China's spaceflight circle, said that China has
started its moon orbiting project and CASC has also participated in
development of "Chang'e I" moon probing satellite and its carrier for the
moon orbiting project.
Xu pointed out that instead of "moon landing," China is currently engaged
in "moon probing," which is composed of three stages - "orbiting, landing
and return," and aims at probing the moon.
