Chongqing in a British Consul's eyes
www.chinanews.cn 2006-01-19 17:38:34
Chinanews, Chongqing, Jan. 19 CChongqing was a beautiful city with
hospital people and delicious food, British Consul General in Chongqing
Tim Summers recently told reporters. The Consul General came to Chongqing
in August 2004 after working in Hong Kong for five years.
Speaking in fluent Chinese, Mr. Summers said the city seemed to take a
fresh look overnight, with lots of newly-built roads, buildings, airports
and light rail emerging in a s
hort time.
When talking about Chinese government's plan to build Chongqing as an
economic center in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, Mr. Summers
said the city had a strategic position in China since it was located in
central China and was as an important city in the upper reaches of the
Yangtze River. He hoped that Chongqing could serve as a window to link
Britain more closely with China's western regions and attract more
British entrepreneurs to make their investment here.
As the British Consul-General in Chongqing, Mr. Summers regarded
Chongqing as a city with great potential of development. He said the fast
economic development in the city could be compared with that of Hong Kong
years ago. He said the city would take some time in its globalization
process, however, he was confident with its future.
