Dec. 4 - China will take measures to expand domestic consumption next
year.
China has maintained an increase of 10 to 12 percent in consumption
annually. Ensuring domestic consumption accounts for a greater proportion
of China's GDP will help to provide a base for sustained economic
development.
The minister responsible for the State Development and Reform Commission
(SDRC), Ma Kai, delivered this message at the year-end national
development and reform meeting which opened in Beijing on Saturday.
The meeting highlighted five measures to stimulate consumption, by
freeing up more disposable income for citizens.
The measures include an increase in the minimum living allowance set for
urban residents; improved rural market services; a crackdown on illegal
charges levied by the education and medical sectors; improved policies on
the housing, motor vehicle, culture and tourism markets; and by making
new regulations and rules on consumer loans.
