Aug. 22 - China's Xie Xingfang beat compatriot Zhang Ning 2-1 to win the
women's singles title at the world badminton championship in Anaheim,
United States.
Second seed Xie outgunned the defending champion and world number one
11-8, 9-11 and 11-3.
This is the first time Xie Xingfang has won the singles title at the
championship.
However, China's world top player Lin Dan failed to win the men's singles
after losing to Indonesia's Taufik Hidayat 15-3, 15-7.
With the victory, Taufik becomes the first man in history to hold the
Olympic and world titles at the same time.
In the mixed doubles final, Chinese duo Xie Zhongbo and Zhang Yawen lost
to their Indonesian rivals 2-1, and had to settle for silver.
