Chinanews, Aug. 17 - Personal care brand Dove released the result of a
trans-Asia ten-country and region survey of 2,100 women. Survey shows
that influenced by a narrow, formulaic definition of beauty, only 4% of
women on the mainland consider themselves beautiful.
Survey indicates that 80% of Chinese women will use cosmetic products to
adorn themselves, with more than half of all these women choosing
whitening products to enhance their appearance. 45% of women consider
themselves overweight, almost no one think of themselves as too thin.
Furthermore, age is also an important factor influencing the
determination of beauty. A vast majority of Asian women have a youth
orientation in their concept of beauty. In China, 70% of women believe
their most beautiful days were before reaching the age of thirty.
Survey shows that more than 70% of Asian women rely on others' definition
to determine beauty (including husband/partner, family/relatives, women
or male friends). In particular, the views of husband/partner occupy the
most important place for women of Vietnam, Korea and Taiwan in their
perception of beauty. What is most interesting is that this factor is
only 15% in the Chinese mainland, lowest among all Asian countries.
Survey also shows only 9% of women on the mainland will consider using
plastic surgery to attain their beauty target, but that number rises to
25% if the operation were free of charge. But this same ratio rises to
53% and 60% respectively for Korean women. Regarding the parts of the
body where they would consider plastic surgery, Chinese women are most
enthusiastic about getting rid of wrinkles (29%), with whitening of skin
in second place (25%) and face in third place (18%). Compared to breast
augmentation most desired by Western women, Chinese females show distinct
lack of interest, with only 8% choosing this procedure.
