Chinese population grew 7.68 mln in 2005

Chinanews, Mar.1 - China published the Statistical Communiqu��on the
National Economy and Social Development in 2005 on the 28th, which shows
that up through the end of last year, Chinese population totaled 1.30756
billion, rising 7.68 million over the end of 2004.
The population in cities and towns reached 562.12 million, and the figure
of rural residents set 745.44 million. 673.75 million are men and 633.81
million are women, accounting for 51.5% and 48.5% of the total
population, respectively.
According to the communiqu��, 16.17 million people were born in China,
with the birthrate recording 1.240% in the whole year. 8.49 million died,
with the death rate reaching 0.651%. Natural growth rate hit 0.589%.
