Coal demand & supply in balance in 1st half
www.chinanews.cn 2005-08-02 11:37:09
Chinanews, Beijing, Aug. 1 (By Liu Changzhong) - Latest survey result
released by the China Logistics Information Center today shows that the
supply-demand conflict of China's coal market has been greatly alleviated
this summer compared with the same period last year. It is predicted that
in future the coal market will see robust supply and demand and an
overall balanced structure.
Experts believe that coal price will maintain steady and rise slightly in
the coming period. Judging from the current situation of the coal market,
compared with last year, the driving force for price hikes is obviously
insufficient. At the same time, taking the price trend of the
international coal market into account, the coal price in China's market
will not grow sharply.
In the first half of this year, China's coal resources maintained a rapid
growth. Newly-added coal resources reached 160.95 million tons in June
alone, increasing 13.3% from a year earlier. By the end of June, China's
coal inventory totaled 115 million tons, remaining a normal level.
In addition, coal import also grew rapidly in the first half. Import in
June amounted to 2.35 million tons, up 45.1% over last year's comparable
period. Cumulative coal import in the first six months reached 12.09
million tons, 56.1% higher than the same period last year. Coal export
stood at 36.72 million tons, declining 15.9% year on year.
