Plastic surgery to land summer jobs?

Chinanews, July 25 - In the beauty center of Shandong's Qianfoshan
Hospital and the Hospital Of Jinan Military Region as well as several
beauty clinics in downtown, as summer arrives, the number of students
coming to inquire about plastic surgery is rising as high as the
temperature. These students are mostly senior middle school and
university students, as many as 60% of all who inquire about these
beautification procedures.
Dr. Li Jiang of the plastics surgery center said that since this June,
the hospital has received nearly 400 inquiries and completed 150
procedures, with students being at least 60% of the total. These students
were mostly soon-to-graduate college students or just-graduated high
school students. Among them were some with special needs, such as models,
athletes, applicants for film academies.
"New beginning under new environment", "good looks instill self
confidence in job search", these are reasons that students seek plastic
surgery. Sun, president of the Students' Union in a local college,
believed that competition was so keen that "appearance" would be a factor
of success in seeking jobs. Furthermore, "everyone loves beauty, a more
beautiful appearance would instill self confidence."
Professor Wang Zhongwu of the School of Philosophy and Social Development
of Shandong University believed that trading health for beauty was
usually a bad bargain. He suggested that schools and society should
reinforce students' esthetic education and begin body shaping training at
school and courses in social etiquette to raise the overall quality of
graduating students.
